The Passion of Christ

The 5th Sunday of Lent sees us entering 'Passiontide' which is when we turn away from searching ourselves to a focus on the passion or suffering of Christ. Passion seems a strange word to describe this but it is taken from the Latin 'patios' which means to suffer or endure. In the week of Passiontide we enter into the journey of suffering experienced by Christ through to his crucifixion and then the celebration of his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Reflecting on this journey, I was reminded of the numbers of people around us and throughout the world who are on a Journey of suffering. We are all called to join them on the journey through prayer and action to bring the good news message of the resurrection: that in terms of the Christian Faith, there is always hope.
