St Mary's Dedication Festival, 9th May 2021

Worship with us this Sunday!

This Sunday is our Dedication Festival.

The Foundation Stone of St Mary's Church was laid on 9th May 1931 by the Bishop of Newcastle. At this special service, the current Bishop of Newcastle will preside over the Eucharist in celebration of exactly 90 years since our church was founded.

Whether you have been coming all your life, or whether this is the first time for you, you are very welcome and we look forward to seeing you.

This service will also be streamed to our YouTube Channel >

If you're joining from home, be sure to join the live stream earlier than usual to watch a short video slideshow of the history of St Mary's.

Join us in person! Go to our Services & Worship page to see upcoming services and sign up. You can do that by clicking or tapping on this link:

This Week's News

This year our collection for Christian Aid is taking a different form. We have a page on our website where you can donate through our St Mary's digital envelope.

We'd like as many people as possible in the parish to know about the great work which Christian Aid is doing and to have the opportunity to donate.

We'll be doing this by delivering envelopes through letterboxes as usual, but instead of calling back to collect, each envelope will have a label directing recipients to the Christian Aid section of our website to donate. Envelopes will be available for collection in the vestibule at Church on Sunday - please take some if you can and sign the list to let us know which street(s) you will be covering.

Whether or not you can deliver envelopes, please remember Christian Aid in your prayers this week. You can find inspiration and resources to help you pray at christianaid.org.uk/pray.

Celebrating 90 years

We have put together a gallery of photos from the foundation of our church 1931, to the present day. Have a look here:

An update about Olya Bouchard

On Friday a week ago, Olya had a 5-hr operation to remove her tumour and 3 of her ribs under which it was growing. The operation was successful and hopefully the tumour is now safely gone. That same evening she wrote: "Thank you for your support. It helps me go through this time without worrying. I am doing fine. Please send my love to all who thought about me all this time and today especially." And to this we would like to add our thanks too for your collective and private prayers. Please continue to pray for her complete recovery. It means so much to us and our family. Peter and Rosemay

Ascension Day

There will be an evening Eucharist for Ascension Day on Thursday 13th May at 7:30pm. You are very welcome to join in person or online. Sign up here in the usual way.

Thy Kingdom Come

On Sunday 16th May there will be a short service at 4.00pm for "Thy Kingdom Come", the period between Ascension and Pentecost when Christians from many denominations around the world offer prayer for more people to come to know Jesus. Sign up on the website next week to join us in praying for the coming of the Holy Spirit, that we may be empowered to spread the good news of God's love for us.

Thank You

Many thanks for your prayers for my brother and his wife, Alan and Margaret Stears, in recent months. Alan was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October and after some anxious times when treatment was postponed, he has had chemotherapy and surgery. He now requires no further treatment, only monitoring and is doing well. David and I are looking forward to seeing them in person on May 17, which is also Alan’s birthday. Your prayerful concern for them both has been really appreciated. Thank You, Carole Lax
