Living in Love and Faith
How do questions about identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage fit within the bigger picture of the good news of Jesus Christ? What does it mean to live in love and faith together as a Church?
From Sunday 6th February we are hosting 5 short sessions in church where we can have these discussions and feed back to the Church of England our views.
You don't have to commit to all of the sessions, but please express your interest using the button below. It is so important that we share our views and have these discussions.
You can view a video introducing Living in Love and Faith below, or click here to learn more.
Placement News for Ben
Ben has been invited by the Very Revd Geoff Miller, Dean of the Cathedral, to serve a placement at the Cathedral beginning from 1 May 2022 until the end of August 2022. After reflection with Rachel (Training Incumbent) and with Jennifer Cooper (Director of IME), and with the full support of Bishop Mark, Ben has taken up this invitation.
Jennifer Cooper writes: "It is common for curates to undertake a placement in the final year of curacy in order to broaden their ministerial experience prior to their first post of responsibility, and the Cathedral placement will give Ben the opportunity to further his priestly ministry in a new context while still a curate."
A message from the Wardens
David and Sue, the Wardens, would just like to reassure everyone that St Mary’s will continue to function much as it is at the moment, despite the news regarding Clare and Ben. The service pattern will continue as currently, but some services will have visiting clergy presiding and preaching. Oversight will continue from the Wardens and the Area Dean, Tim Mayfield - who we have already met with. Please do speak to the Wardens or Liz Hayes as Lay Chair if you have any comments or concerns.

Candlemass, Sunday 30th January
Each year the church celebrates a festival called "The Presentation of Christ in the Temple", otherwise known as "Candlemas". This festival remembers the occasion when the infant Jesus was brought to the Temple by Mary and Joseph. The service has often been associated with light, hence the name Candlemas.
A Collect for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Heavenly Father, you have called us in the Body of your Son Jesus Christ to continue his work of reconciliation and reveal you to the world. Forgive us the sins which tear us apart; give us the courage to overcome our fears and to seek that unity which is your gift and your will; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Office Reopening Monday 24th January
The office will be open again from Monday 24th January, 10am - 12pm week days.
Thank you for your understanding across the last few weeks.
Hymn Books and Orders of Service
Please could you collect your books in church from the counter in the vestibule, and where possible, return them before you leave. This will save the Wardens having to move them all when the church is used for other service
New Sound System
The PCC have agreed to fund a new sound system for the church. Most of the money has come from a grant. A small team lead by Kate Stobart will be taking this forward so, in time, the sound quality will improve noticeably, especially for those who use the loop system.

Vacuum cleaners needed
The various vacuum cleaners in church and the hall are all very much past their best, despite our best maintenance efforts.
