CHANGES TO FORMAT
OF SERVICES

July 2025

As you will no doubt be aware, we now have the projector fitted and are using this for hymns (and eventually for the liturgy). So far, we have received very positive comments, but we are aware that there are some parts of our service that may need to be tweaked to ensure that congregation members can be fully included in our worship. We would appreciate your comments on the following items, using the form below.

1.    Clarity of the words on the screen. Are the words clear for you and would you like to see any changes to size of background?

2.    Hymns. The use of the projector has had a considerable impact on worship with the voices of the congregation being clearly heard. The projector works well for those who can stand but for those who are not able to stand, we will make books available in services. In addition, during the procession of the gospel, as people turn to face the gospel, they cannot see the words of the hymn. We will therefore not process the gospel until the hymn has finished. Do you feel this is agreeable?

3.    Streaming:  We are continuing to live stream our 10.00am Holy Communion using the new camera which has been fitted. The new camera when focused on the rear lectern takes in the whole of church; particularly at the gospel reading when people are facing the gospel. We are therefore considering not using the rear lectern for the gospel, but instead reading the gospel from the aisle between the front 4 rows. We are also considering giving our younger members roles as acolytes and crucifer to lead the gospel. The intercessions will continue to be read from the rear lectern, but the camera will focus on a candle or a stained-glass window. This will mean the rear rows in church on the south side will not be in the camera view.  What are your thoughts on this?

4.    Liturgy: We will be putting the whole liturgy on the slides projected on the rear wall. This will mean we will not be giving out worship books on a regular basis. The flaw in this is when people are unable to stand, they may not be able to see the projected words. Possible solutions are:
i.    A card is provided with words of the congregation prayers and responses.
ii.    During Holy Communion, all the congregation sits or kneels.

Your thoughts on the these options or any other observations would be appreciated.  Please use the form below, or speak to one of the clergy or wardens.
