On 24th and 25th May we held our 'Thy Kingdom Come' Prayer event on St Mary's Island and in the church building. This was a joint venture with our friends from Whitley Lodge Baptist Church, who during the school break will be worshipping in St Mary's following the 10.00am service as the school will be undergoing building work.
The prayer event was a wonderful opportunity for us to begin to get to know each other and on the evening of 24th we met in St Mary's for time of prayer led by the Whitley Lodge Baptist minister. Micky Munroe. As Micky led us, we held a pebble off the beach. A prayer that struck me as particularly pertinent was:
'Draw your church together O God, into one great company of disciples together following our Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life, together serving him in his mission to the world, an together witnessing to his love on every continent and island' . Our concluding was action was to make a cairn. I invited everyone to add their stone to the cairn which has been started at our Family @ Four service. This was a very simple act whilst also being very powerful. As our stones were placed the cairn visibly grew and we felt a real sense of unity. It is this unity that we celebrate when we celebrate the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, this Sunday. It's a concept we often find difficult to understand, but it is reality simply about unity in love, the love of God.
