This Week's News
"An Annual Fair to remember!"
The total amount raised was £2,492; an amazing result, due to a great team effort by a dedicated group of volunteers. The stalls were fantastic, offering a wonderful array of cakes, jams, flowers, plants, hamper basket, bric a brac etc. So many people from the community entered Church, visited the stalls and then relaxed with friends and neighbours, soaking up the atmosphere, whilst enjoying the gorgeous boxed afternoon teas provided by the Refreshment Team. The successful bids in the Auction raised £785, which is included in the above figure, so thank you to all those who donated, bid and bought online. This new venture worked well!
Children's worship at 10am
Activities to nurture the spirituality of children will begin again at St Mary's on Sunday November 28th, at the celebration of Christ the King. During the 10am service there will be a Godly Play session for any children, from the age of 4 upwards, in the Gathering Space. I will be leading these sessions initially, but require a rota of other adults to support this work. Please contact me if you are able to volunteer.

Young Notes
We are really excited to introduce a new junior singing group at St Mary's!
We will sing fun repertoire, appropriate to younger singers, building up to singing in some of our services here at St Mary's. All are welcome to come and give it a try, no musical experience required; rehearsals will be 5.30 - 6.30pm a couple of Saturdays a month, with no pressure to make every one. The first will be Saturday 13th November - contact Penny on 07505679210 with any questions, or just show up!
Rosie McMorrow
We'd love to see you at St Mary's this Sunday 7th November for our afternoon concert at 3pm. Rosie McMorrow, Mezzo-Soprano, will give a recital of classical songs inspired by the Sea!
This is a free concert and refreshments are available from 2.30pm. Do come along and support Rosie and our Concert Series.
Eco Church
St. Mary's has produced and agreed it's first Parish Environmental Policy. A copy is on display on the Eco board in church and a copy in the church hall. Please check it out. The board in church also contains ideas and information relating to environmental issues.
COP 26 is in progress. We need to keep all those taking part and those effected by the environmental crisis, in our thoughts and prayers. There is a Global day of Action for Climate Justice, on Saturday 6th November. Supporters are meeting in Newcastle at 12pm, starting at the Civic Centre.
We can all take actions to help tackle the climate crisis. What change could you make to help limit climate change? Could you;- eat less meat and dairy; reduce food waste; walk, cycle or take public transport; consider going electric if replacing your car; fly less; use renewable energy sources at home; buy less - reduce, reuse, repair and recycle. These are a few of the possibilities.
There is a tree in church (north aisle, by the eco board) to display pledges and prayers. Write a new action you can commit to, which would reduce your impact on the climate crisis, on one of the paper leaves provided. A prayer for the climate crisis can be added to the other side. Hang it on the tree. As a community we can take actions that make a difference. Let's see them grow.
Everyone is invited to add their pledges and prayers. Either on a Sunday or whenever the church is open. All welcome. Marion.

St John's Christmas charity market
On Saturday 6th November, 10am - 12pm, St John's are hosting their annual Christmas charity market.
Rick and Sue Channing will be there with Traidcraft, and all are welcome to pop along and support.
DePaul Christmas "Hamper" Appeal
We have been asked along with other local churches to collect goodies for local needy youngsters who are helped by the DePaul Trust charity. This will be the last time. These unexpected gifts are always greatly appreciated; often they will be the only Christmas present received. This year we are asked for packs of chocolate bars (kitkat or similar). The familiar box will be in the vestibule as usual, and thank you in advance for your kindness. Thelma Gilhespy

Covid 19 October Update
As we can see from the news, Covid remains a huge problem throughout the country. We have been discussing how we deal with the various issues, and this is where we stand at the moment:
There is no longer any need to register for services
We will only issue red badges as requested to indicate that you're still being very careful about social distancing
Please continue to wear masks
Parish breakfast will not be restarting yet
We have no plans yet to start administering the wine at communion
We will continue to review our Covid risk assessment and make changes when we think it's safe to do so.
Please don't hesitate to speak to us or any of the staff team if you have any concerns or questions. David and Sue, Wardens.

Safeguarding and Cameras
As part of our legal safeguarding requirements we must ensure that no-one is photographed or filmed without their permission. We have certain areas in church (including the Noah’s Ark corner) that are always off-camera, but when people come up to receive Holy Communion it is impossible not to walk in view of the cameras. Because of this we are experimenting with ways of obscuring the distribution of communion from the cameras. This will inevitably affect the experience of those joining in at home, and we always hope that we can be as inclusive and welcoming as possible, however, this should be balanced with continuing to provide a safe and secure environment for all. Apologies to those joining from home who will not enjoy the changes. If you have any queries or concerns about this, please get in touch.
