Eco Tip for the Week
England has just experienced it’s warmest June on record. As we work towards reducing green house gas emissions, we must also learn to live with the changes. Here are some suggestions for keeping safe and cooler when temperatures are extreme;- drink plenty of fluids; eat light meals; keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm; limit physical activity to cooler parts of the day; keep yourself cool, light clothing, cool shower, cold water to your wrists and ankles; keep your home cool, close curtains to block direct sunlight, open windows at opposite sides of the house to release trapped warm air, open windows and curtains at night to allow cool air to circulate; a fan circulates air but doesn’t cool it, position in front of a window when it is cooler outside or place a bottle of frozen water in front of it, to circulate cooler air (buy an energy efficient model). Importantly, look out for the vulnerable and be aware of the risks of overheating.
During a heatwave, many ‘cool spaces’ are often public buildings, libraries, shopping centres, leisure centres and local churches. They can offer core amenities like shade, seating, and access to drinking water.
Giving
Have you reviewed your regular giving recently? An increase of just £2.50 per week would make a massive difference in the face of rising costs. Click the button for more information.
If anyone requires a Gift Aid certificate for their accounts, please contact our treasurer at stmarysmonkseatontreasurer@gmail.com
Holiday Club

Volunteers for Holiday Club
We could still do with a few more volunteers to help with the holiday club on Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th July. Please speak to Nigel or Claire if you are willing to help.
Choir Windows Fundraising Concert

Church Windows Update
We’ve received more donations, and the funding thermometer will be updated early next week once David is back from his holidays!
Although we’ve heard nothing yet following our grant applications, that’s quite normal as the turn around is often quite slow.
But we have identified another grant source and put a fourth application in, which is encouraging.
Any work like this requires permission from the Diocese, and to obtain this the church has to submit a ‘Faculty’ application.
Our Faculty application is just about complete as of this week, so we hope to get formal approval at the next Faculty meeting.
And finally, please support our fundraising events. Details of the choir concert are above, and there are more to come.
You can contribute by:
- cheque payable to "St Mary's Monkseaton" or cash (envelopes in church, with Gift Aid slips, into the wall-safe)
- by bank transfer to: Sort Code: 403418, Account: 04502086 Please give your surname as the 'reference'.
Please also email office@stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk if you are able to Gift Aid your donation
