Service Times Review
It has been over 20 years since the service times at St Mary’s have been reviewed, so the PCC have agreed to survey our congregations about their preferred service times.
Please complete the survey by following the link to an online form, or you will find paper copies in the vestibule.
Eco Tip for the Week
Aim to reduce the carbon footprint of your diet.
We are in National Vegetarian Week, from October 1 – 7, and are encouraged to give vegetarian food a try, to positively impact people, animals, and the planet.
A vegetarian diet requires less land and water in production, (a kilo of beef needs between 13,000 to 100,000 litres of water, a kilo of wheat needs, between 1,000 and 2,000 litres.) It reduces methane and nitrox oxide production, deforestation and the pollution of our waterways.
We also need to be aware of how far our food has travelled, how we cook it to save energy and plan carefully to avoid food waste.
Harvest Festival
Sunday 5th October will be our Harvest Festival and we will be collecting for the Bay Food Bank. Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries can be left in the box in the vestibule or brought along on the day.
A representative from the Food Bank will be with us at the 10am service to tell us more about their work.
St Mary’s 100 Club 2025/26
Following a refreshing summer break the PCC have asked me to restart the 100 Club next month.
Whilst the 100 Club year has been declining in popularity in recent times, last year we raised £795 which was up slightly on the previous year. Monies raised will go towards the new windows. Thank you to everyone who participated. It does help and is appreciated.
St Mary’s will be delighted if you will join or re join the scheme. Monies raised this time will go towards church funds.
For £25 a year you are entered into twelve monthly draws with the chance of winning £50, £30 and £20 or in December £100, £50 or £30. All you need to do is transfer £25 using online banking to St Marys 100 Club, Sort Code 20-62-09 Account No. 53160653. Alternatively, drop off a cheque made payable to St Marys 100 Club or even cash. Please post or deliver either to me at 61 Brierdene Crescent, Whitley Bay, NE26 4AD or to church. (Should it be required the letter box is in the north door.)
I would appreciate if existing members could send me an email or text confirming payment. If you are a new member, I will need your name and address. A contact email address or phone number would be useful too so that I can confirm receipt and deliver your winnings to your home!
With thanks

OWLS
Following our summer break we will be meeting again on Friday 10 October.
I’m hoping we will have a speaker for the meeting but there will also be lots of news to share including details of our venue for the Christmas meal.
I look forward to seeing you all. Details are the same as usual, meeting at 12noon, £6.50 for a sandwich lunch. Please feel free to bring along a new friend, but if you do please sign them up on the sheet for lunch. The sign up sheet will be on the table in the vestibule from this coming Sunday. Do phone or text me if you have any queries.

Christmas Fair
I’m really excited to announce that planning for St Mary's Christmas Fair is well underway!
The fair will be on Saturday 29th November and we are planning lots of stalls, raffle, tombola, cakes and hopefully a visit from Santa!
We are beginning to reach out to the congregation for anyone who wants to be part of the fair, whether to help, whether to have a stall, whether to donate raffle or tombola prizes or whether to bring in cakes! Please contact Andrew Potter (andrewpotter@hotmail.com) for more details
Church Windows Update
Fund raising is continuing really well, with more money coming in this last week.
Particular thanks to Mary and the Monkseaton Morris dancers for what was a great evening last weekend at the ceilidh.
We’re now in discussion with the contractor (Neg Architectural Systems Ltd) about phasing the works.
Costs are creeping up, and we could probably now get a majority of the windows replaced in the fairly short term.
We’ll update you when we have more definite information.
You can contribute by:
- cheque payable to "St Mary's Monkseaton" or cash (envelopes in church, with Gift Aid slips, into the wall-safe)
- by bank transfer to: Sort Code: 403418, Account: 04502086 Please give your surname as the 'reference'.
Please also email office@stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk if you are able to Gift Aid your donation
