Eco Tip of the Week

Keep our awe-inspiring planet, as nurturing, diverse and beautiful to live in, for our children and future generations, as it has been for us. We can make change happen, and have agreements and actions on a global scale speeded up. When we work together humanity is capable of great things. Now, it is even more important than ever that we use our actions, our votes and our voices to tell political and business leaders that action on the climate emergency is absolutely essential.

Eco Church: Repair Café.

It has been suggested that a printable version of the Repair Café poster would allow anyone who wanted to display a poster in their window, to print one and do so. Here it is (click here), so please display, share and remember to come along on the 18th. All welcome.

Christian Aid

Last month we supported the Christian Aid fundraising week which focussed on providing support for mothers in Nairobi, Kenya, facing the devastating reality of urban poverty and the daily struggle to feed their children. Amongst our activities was our fundraising “Big Brekkie” where we enjoyed breakfast, a quiz and a good catch up with friends.

A huge thank you to all who attended and donated - we raised a fantastic £1,437 for Christian Aid.

Windows Project Update

We have had a setback with our windows project. The contractor has advised us that a firm they had appointed to carry out a vital part of the preparation of the frames has suffered a significant machine breakdown and cannot complete the work. Although they are actively looking for another supplier they have been unsuccessful so far. This means a further significant delay.

We have expressed our disappointment and concern at the news, so NEG Architectural Designs have agreed to refund our first payment until the work is able to proceed. This is, of course, reassuring.

We really want to keep with this contractor as to look for and negotiate with a new company would not only take time, but almost certainly lead to a large increase in costs, plus we would need to reimburse NEG for costs incurred so far. We would also need to amend the Faculty for the work. We will keep everyone informed if there are any developments.

'Bible Lyte'

Starting on Wednesday 1 July, we will be holding a Bible Study in Church after our Holy Communion Service (which starts at 10.30am). The study will start at approx. 11.15am, and will run for an hour. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome and we hope to see you there.

Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

There will be a Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse training session at St Peter's Church on Wednesday 15 July.  If anyone is interested, please speak to Nigel or Claire.

The session will also run again on the afternoon of Saturday 10th October for anyone who wants to come outside of normal working hours.

Summer Holiday Club

Announcing St Mary's Summer Holiday Club for 2026. We will be holding the club from 9.30 to 12.30 on 28th, 29th and 30th July in Church. Age range is 4-11 years and we will be providing a simple sandwich lunch.

Our theme this year is 'Super Heroes'. We will be thinking about the heroes in our lives and the heroes in the bible with stories, singing and activities. To sign up, follow the QR code on the below poster or click here.

We are looking for some volunteers to help in the kitchen at Holiday Club. If you are interested, please speak to Claire, Nigel or the Office.

Supporting our Claire

Our fabulous Assistant Curate Claire Lewis will be running the AJ Bell Great North Run in September - the World’s biggest and best half marathon! She is raising money for North East Action for Children Parents and Inclusion (NAPI), a charity of which she is Chair of the Management Committee.

NAPI recognises that the needs of children and their families are diverse and individual. It provides and promotes services and support to children and families, local communities, volunteers and organisations, empowering the social, educational and health needs of all those involved.

Open Water Challenge

It’s that time of year when a 'not so young' lady's thoughts turn to open water swimming challenges. This year I have decided to swim from where the A1 crosses the Tweed to the lifeboat station in Berwick, a distance of 4 km. I am desperately hoping for a strong current and tide assisted! 🏊‍♀️🌊Think duck race or Pooh Sticks!!

I am swimming in aid of the Berwick Water Rescue Team and I would welcome any donations, however small. As you know, the RNLI are an amazing organization completely dependent on charity so I like to do my bit….in the hope I won’t need them!

Donations can be made to me directly or to the page here.

Thank you,

Cheryl

Toast Church

Toast Church is our weekly children’s service. It runs after school on a Thursday. People are welcome to arrive any time after 3.30pm for a drink and some toast as we gather after a busy school day. At 4pm we start our service of songs, prayers, story and an activity. Parents can stay if they wish or are welcome to drop off children and pick them up at 4.30pm.
