Eco Tip of the Week
Support sustainability and the environment by keeping damaged items out of landfill or incinerators. Move away from what has become a disposable culture, and prolong the life of your

Eco Church - Repair Café Update
Plans are well under way for next month's Repair Café, here at St. Mary's on Saturday, 18th July. This exciting community event, is now only four weeks away.
As this is our first Repair Café, I'd like to give you an idea of what to expect. At this time, we have 11 volunteers, giving their time and expertise to repair items brought along on the day. If an item is beyond repair, they will let you know. You are encouraged to observe and/or assist in the repair. No charge is made for the repair, but all donations towards running costs, gratefully received. House rules and guidance will be available on the day.
At the moment, we have 11 volunteers covering three categories:
Textiles - 4 textile menders, all offering something different; decorative mending, visible mending, darning and machine sewing
Bikes - 3 bike repairers, offering skills and knowledge in all things bike related
Mechanical - 4 retired engineers, offering their skills, to cover the areas of, mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer items, woodwork and home maintenance
A non-repair, informative area will provide an environmental workshop, energy advice and the skills of a creative environmentalist. More could be added.
Our partnership with North Tyneside Council has been invaluable in setting up this community project, which will be the first of four over the coming year. We are also grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for the grant St. Mary's has received to help fund this new venture.
Please share the info and come along to support the event. If you have nothing in need of repair, come for a browse and a cuppa. Everyone welcome.

pARTners Exhibition - 19th to 21st June
St Mary's will be transformed into an art gallery to showcase the work of pARTners which provides art classes for people living with dementia in North Tyneside.
The project brings together artist volunteers to support and tutor members of the classes on a one-to-one basis.
The paintings show the skills, life experiences, concentration, imagination and sheer joy that members bring to their art. Each person is encouraged to develop their own unique creative voice and the exhibition reflects a wide range of techniques, approaches and subjects.
OWLS NEWS
Thank all of you who came to the gathering last Friday and a special thanks to Mary Cooper for rounding off the meeting with one of her great stories, this time a journey from the Old Testament. Mary always brings her story telling to life and helps us contemplate our present and future when we listen to the oldest of stories from the Bible. The focus of the story was very pertinent as the OWLS will be embarking on their own journey from October.
I have decided to step down from leading the group after our summer break and Emma Doran, along with the staff team will be there to guide you on your future travels. It’s four years since we had our inaugural meeting after Clare Connors and I had an idea to help all our older members at St Mary’s to lead fulfilled and spiritual lives in the Autumn of their years. It has been a joy to work with you, helping all of us along the way to acknowledge that we still have meaningful and happy lives even as we age. I am both proud of you all and grateful that you have been part of the group, thank you to everyone.
As I told the group on Friday I’ve spent the last eight weeks struggling with a serious health issue, which hopefully will be resolved completely in the coming weeks. This encouraged me to move forward with my decision that I would step down in July this year.
I know that we are as a group well thought of at St Mary’s and this is due to the loyalty and help of all of you. I will have a short break from attending whilst Emma takes over, but I will be there to help in the background and I’m sure you will help her along the way.
This new beginning will be on a new day as from October OWLS will meet on Mondays at 12noon, following on from the Toddlers group.
Finally; our last meeting before the summer break is on Friday 10th July for Afternoon Tea at 2pm in Whitley Bay Golf Club, the cost £25 is payable at the venue on the day. They have booked the small lounge at the back with a lovely view over the course. I look forward to seeing you all if you can come and as always, please bring a friend if you would like to and of course sign up on the list by the 28 June so that I can give numbers to the Golf Club.

Young Notes
Toast Church
Toast Church is our weekly children’s service. It runs after school on a Thursday. People are welcome to arrive any time after 3.30pm for a drink and some toast as we gather after a busy school day. At 4pm we start our service of songs, prayers, story and an activity. Parents can stay if they wish or are welcome to drop off children and pick them up at 4.30pm. The service is designed for under 11’s but all are welcome.
