Eco Church: Repair Café - Saturday 18th July

Could I please put an appeal out to home bakers and anyone willing to supply some cakes, scones or biscuits for the upcoming Repair Café, for our volunteers and visitors. Please let me know if you can donate something. Many thanks, Marion.

Eco Tip of the Week

Embrace the circular economy by recycling and reusing, which helps keep materials in use and out of the ground. Sending rubbish to landfill is environmentally and economically unsustainable. It generates potent greenhouse gases and can produce toxic chemicals that can leach into waterways, affecting ecosystems and health. Finite raw materials are lost, which could be repurposed. Please support your local recycling and reuse facilities and consider having items repaired rather than discarded. (Repair Café, here at St. Mary's, 18th July, 10am - 2pm 🙂). Below are some surprising numbers about items sent to landfill:

Men's Breakfast

We are looking into the possibility of setting up a Men's Breakfast Group. If this is something you think you would be interested in, please speak to Clergy.

Toddlers

Next Monday, 13th July, will be the last toddler session before we break for the summer holidays.

'Bible Lyte'

Starting on Wednesday 1st July, we will be holding a Bible Study in Church after our Holy Communion Service (which starts at 10.30am). The study will start at approx. 11.15am, and will run for an hour. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome and we hope to see you there.

Arts & Eco Fair - 5th September

We are in the planning process for our 3rd Arts and Eco Fair. Why not save the date and join us for an informative and enjoyable event. There are opportunities for new stalls: please contact the parish office for information.

Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

There will be a Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse training session at St Peter's Church on Wednesday 15th July at 10.30am. The session will last for 90 minutes.  If anyone is interested, please speak to Nigel or Claire.

The session will also run again on the afternoon of Saturday 10th October for anyone who wants to come outside of normal working hours.

Supporting our Claire

Our fabulous Assistant Curate Claire Lewis will be running the AJ Bell Great North Run in September - the World’s biggest and best half marathon! She is raising money for North East Action for Children Parents and Inclusion (NAPI), a charity of which she is Chair of the Management Committee.

NAPI recognises that the needs of children and their families are diverse and individual. It provides and promotes services and support to children and families, local communities, volunteers and organisations, empowering the social, educational and health needs of all those involved.

Open Water Challenge

It’s that time of year when a 'not so young' lady's thoughts turn to open water swimming challenges. This year I have decided to swim from where the A1 crosses the Tweed to the lifeboat station in Berwick, a distance of 4 km. I am desperately hoping for a strong current and tide assisted! 🏊‍♀️🌊Think duck race or Pooh Sticks!!

I am swimming in aid of the Berwick Water Rescue Team and I would welcome any donations, however small. As you know, the RNLI are an amazing organization completely dependent on charity so I like to do my bit….in the hope I won’t need them!

Donations can be made to me directly or to the page here.

Thank you,

Cheryl

Whitley Bay Community Clean Team

Please see below a poster with details of a local litter picking event organised by the Whitley Bay Community Clean Team. They are a welcoming, friendly and inclusive group and would be delighted if anyone within the parish would join their events.

Toast Church

Toast Church is our weekly children’s service. It runs after school on a Thursday. People are welcome to arrive any time after 3.30pm for a drink and some toast as we gather after a busy school day. At 4pm we start our service of songs, prayers, story and an activity. Parents can stay if they wish or are welcome to drop off children and pick them up at 4.30pm. The service is designed for under 11’s but all are welcome.
