6th Sunday after Trinity, 19th July 2020

This week's church service

Our Sunday Services in church continue this weekend, Sunday 19th July. Due to social distancing regulations we are limited to 30 people so if you would like to go, and you haven’t already done so, you can sign up to reserve your seat each week (between 12 noon Sundays and 12 noon Saturdays) by visiting our website, or clicking the link below.

If unable to do this you can ring the office beforehand and leave a message on 0191 251 4216. If there are still places available we will add you to the list and let you know.

All arrangements in church have been thought about carefully and there are various protective measures in place to make the building as safe as possible.  Face coverings can be worn, and the advice is to wear one wherever possible along with anything else that makes you feel protected.

You will be able to bring your Planned Giving envelopes to the service.

If you haven't signed up yet, why not give it a go! We'd love to see you!

Join us in church this Sunday 19th July at 10am. To help us prepare we are asking that you let us know you're coming. You can do that here:

Our first service back caught on camera!

A few images from church last Sunday that were popular on our Facebook page. People said they'd missed the sound of the bells!

Joining in from Home

We had hoped to ‘Live Stream’ the service so more people at home could join in. Unfortunately, due to our broadband speed being inadequate, we are unable to do this yet.

Our service in church will be recorded, and the recording of the service will be available to view from around 12 noon on Sunday. Having put a request for a broadband upgrade into action it is hoped that we will be able to go ahead with the Live Streaming soon. We are really sorry we haven’t been able to coordinate this with our services yet.

If you aren't able to join us in church, you can still watch from home. We are recording our service on Sunday, and it will be available to watch all week.

Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer will now be said at 9am on Wednesdays and you would be most welcome to attend.

Church Open Times

The church will continue to be open on Wednesay morning after Morning Prayer, until 12noon for Private Prayer - all in the main body of the church. There is no private prayer on Saturdays now to allow for cleaning between church uses.

Parish Office

The Parish Office remains closed and is not accessible to you in person, but Dot and Carol are still working from home and can be reached via email and phone. If you wish to leave any correspondence then please post it through the north door. Thank you for your patience during these very different times.

Our New Archbishop!

On his first day as Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell visited York Minster to take up the crozier of office.

Joining our Mailing List

Do you know someone who would love to get our weekly email? At the bottom of this page (and any page of our website) you can sign up to our mailing list. Spread the word!

Goodbye Sue

Sue Morgan has now stepped down as our organist. Sue and Adrian’s wedding has now been postponed to Friday 4th September. We wish Sue every blessing as she leaves her organist role here at St Mary’s and our love and best wishes are sent to Sue and Adrian as they approach their new wedding date.

Watch the video of our surprise visit to Sue on last week's notices!

A Message from Sue

I just wanted to say, a big, big thank you, for such a generous gift.  I don’t know how you’ve had a collection with the church building being closed.  I’m stunned really, and not sure what to say. I’m just so amazed at everyone’s incredible generosity here. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be with you at St Mary’s.  And I’ll have plenty of memories to treasure in the future. I hope it’s not too long before music is heard in the building once again once worship starts.  It’s not a goodbye, as I’m not good at them.  I’ll be visiting from time to time I’m sure. I wish you all well.  And it’s lovely to have worked closely with some of you.Thank you again for the money, the singing this afternoon, and the wine. A very grateful, Sue Morgan

Congratulations

Congratulations to Robert Cure and Suzanne Rider who got engaged last Saturday. Best wishes from all at St Mary’s.

Sharing News

Do let us know if you or others are celebrating any special event or anniversary or if you have any news you wish to share and we can put this news into our future email letters.  You can do this by leaving a message on the church office answerphone 0191 251 4216 or email at: office@stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk.

An Update from Roger about St Mary’s 100 Club 2020/21

We are edging ever closer to our target but we do need more of you to sign up. Thanks to the 83 parishioners who have rejoined or joined to date. There seem to be a number of regulars who are perhaps having a year out. Could I encourage a touch more support from those who would enjoy anticipating a little excitement each month together with those who have managed to spend less than normal during lockdown? Last year the 100 Club raised £1295 for church funds which went mainly towards the costs of cleaning the church hall.

For £25 a year you are entered into twelve monthly draws with the chance of winning £50, £30 and £20 or in December £100, £50 or £30. All you need to do is transfer £25 using online banking:

Payable to: "St Mary’s 100 Club"

Sort Code: 20-62-09

Account No: 53160653.

Alternatively, drop off a cheque made payable to St Mary’s 100 Club or even cash. Please post or deliver either to me at 61 Brierdene Crescent, Whitley Bay, NE26 4AD or to church. (The letter box is in the north door.) I would appreciate if existing members could send me an email or text confirming payment. If you are a new member, I will need your name and address. A contact email address or phone number would be useful too so that I can confirm receipt and deliver your winnings to your home!

Coffee Morning

Our Online Coffee Morning continues and if you are able to join us online between 10:30am and 11:15am on Tuesdays we’d love to see you.

Go to ‘Events’ on our website: stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk/events to RSVP and get a link to join via Zoom. You would need to click on RSVP and enter your name and email address and click on ‘submit’. An email is then sent to you with a link to the Coffee Morning. If you haven’t already got Zoom, you can get it for free on your computer, tablet or phone. You could download it now from https://zoom.us

However, we will be taking a break from the Coffee Morning during August so our last meeting will be on Tuesday 28th July and we will resume on Tuesday 1st September.

Email Addresses

Can we bring to your attention again that both the office and Rachel’s email addresses have changed. If you can make the change in your contact lists it will make sure that we do receive your emails.

The Office email is now: office@stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk

Rachel’s email is now: vicar@stmarysmonkseaton.org.uk

Plants Sale for Church Funds

Last year, Dave Haddock, who was running the Tai Chi class in our hall, brought a selection of plants and shrubs to our Autumn Fayre. He is now offering to sell some of his plants which he grows in his Wallsend nursery garden, and he will deliver if local. 30% of sales will be donated to St Mary’s, so be sure to mention St Mary’s when you order!

Order from Dave Haddock: tel. 0191 2524985, mob. 07976 687973, or email: landman2000uk@yahoo.co.uk. View the Catalogue below.

There is now a new selection of plants in addition to the ones above!
