We are thrilled to be welcoming the first ever pianist to win the coveted BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year award, Michael Biggins, to St Mary's! Michael will be joined on stage by Scott Turnbull on guitar and Callum Younger on percussion, as they perform an enjoyable and refreshing programme of Scottish Folk Music. A licensed bar will be available from 7pm, and during the interval. Tickets can be purchased by clicking below or on the door.

Patronal Festival Wednesday

29th June 7.30pm at St Peter's Monkseaton

To all at St Mary's,

We will be celebrating our patronal festival on the evening of Wed 29th June, with a sung eucharist at 7.30pm, followed by festive refreshments. Fr John from St Paul’s will be preaching. We’d be delighted if any friends from St Mary’s would like to come and join us for the occasion.

Best wishes, Hannah (The Revd Dr Hannah Cleugh, Vicar, St Peter’s Monkseaton)

Grounds Redevelopment Update

The grounds redevelopment start date is now 4th July! We should continue to have access to both the Hall and the Church at all times, albeit occasionally via different entrances. Please remember that the area will be a building site, so watch your step and follow signage when necessary.

We’re all looking forward to the autumn when - hopefully - our new vicar will be able to stroll around the grounds with fear of tripping up…

St Mary's Fayre

The Fayre will happen again! So Tom says never too early to sort out unwanted attic treasures or gifts. We will have an online presence for items that can’t go for less than. Contact Tom if in doubt.

Traidcraft

The next Traidcraft stall will be on Sunday July 10th

A message from Karen Johnston

Following a very difficult split from her husband in New Zealand, we are hopeful the court case allowing Lucinda the right to return to the UK with her children may be held in the near future. Please, as a family, may we ask you to hold Lucinda and her children in your prayers.

The Link - June 2022

We also hear from two families who are hosting Ukrainian refugees through the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Other features include 100 years of Holy Trinity Jesmond, grant awards for Hexham Abbey, a fundraising appeal for St John’s Percy Main, Songs of Praise visits St Andrew’s Corbridge, World Environment Day, new forest school opened at Ashington church school – and much more!

REMINDER: St Mary’s 100 Club 2022/23

Thank you to the 37 people who have joined (or rejoined) the 100 Club this week. If you are yet to do so, St Mary's would be delighted if you would consider it. Last year, the 100 Club raised £1370 for church funds which went mainly towards the costs of cleaning the church hall. It is most appreciated.

For £25 a year you are entered into twelve monthly draws with the chance of winning £50, £30 and £20 or in December £100, £50 or £30. To save disappointment perhaps it is better to consider it a donation and enjoy the surprise if you win.

All you need to do is transfer £25 using online banking to St Marys 100 Club, Sort Code 20-62-09 Account No. 53160653. Alternatively, drop off a cheque made payable to St Marys 100 Club or even cash. Please post or deliver either to me at 61 Brierdene Crescent, Whitley Bay, NE26 4AD or to church (should it be required the letter box is in the north door). The church office can also take card payments during office hours, 9.30am - 12.30pm weekdays.

I would appreciate if existing members could send me an email or text confirming payment. If you are a new member, I will need your name and address. A contact email address or phone number would be useful too so that I can confirm receipt and deliver your winnings to your home!

On a happy note, congratulations to our June winners!

  • £50 John Charlton

  • £30 Carol Lewis

  • £20 Ben Jarvis

With thanks, Roger Windass

REMINDER: MU July meeting Tuesday 19th July 2.30pm

So that we have some music to accompany our Strawberry Tea in July please let me have some suggestions - Show songs, solo pieces, jazz, orchestral excerpts, choral etc. Everything considered! I will then put them into a pre- recorded playlist. Many thanks. Carole Lax

REMINDER: OWLS Older Wiser Living Spiritually

This is the name of the group we have been calling The Older People’s Group! We hope you like the name as much as we do and will consider coming to join us on Friday once a month at 12 noon. We begin with a sandwich and cake lunch, followed by some activity, currently we are thinking about what spirituality means in our lives. Dates of meetings are usually the 2nd Friday of the month but in July it will be the 3rd Friday as both leaders are away:

  • July 15th

  • August no meeting planned but the group may like to meet somewhere for coffee

  • September 9th

  • October 14th

  • November 11th

  • December 9th

Please remember to sign up each month at the latest by the Sunday before the meeting as I need to order the food at the start of the week. The sheet for signing is on the table in the vestibule and you will need to pay me £6 for your lunch. I hope you will come and join this lively group of OWLS. Beryl Austoni.
