St Mary the Virgin Monkseaton is a vibrant church serving many people in Monkseaton and Whitley Bay. We are busy throughout the week and have a number of activities going on in our church and church hall. We are looking for a person who has training and experience in accounting/bookkeeping, has good communication and IT skills and to efficiently and effectively administer the work of our parish.
Part Time: 10 hours per week (Flexible)
Salary: £12.50 per hour which equates to £6348 per annum
Location: Parish office located in the church. (With some possible home working by agreement)
Start Date: 5th January 2026
St Mary’s Monkseaton is a church committed to serving the community of its parish. Fundamentally this is through sharing the love of God and working to provide a safe space for the community to use to worship in and celebrate life events, and through the church hall, for events such as birthday parties. The post of administrator is key to achieving this vision as it will be at the centre of communication between church and community; laity and clergy through face-to-face meeting, social media and website, and written and spoken word.

Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen within the Parish Office for an Administrator. The role is available on a flexible part time basis, 10 core hours per week with an option for additional hours by agreement to clerk evening meetings once per month.
Our overall goal is to develop and coordinate growth in the congregation and parish with the aim of enabling children, young people and adults to flourish in their relationship with God within the church, local schools and across the parish generally. Working with the leadership team the Administrator will have an important role in helping to achieve these objectives by ensuring the efficient and effective work of the Parish Office. Prioritising of tasks will be agreed with the Vicar and Line Manager.
You will have responsibility for all administrative and clerical work required in supporting the wellbeing of the church through building a robust infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities

Operate the finance system for invoicing, fee collection, ordering and payment of invoices for church activities and church hall lettings. This is in collaboration with the church treasurer.

Provide the treasurer with relevant banking information and act as a ‘first point of contact’ for same.

Maintain a calendar of all contracts and working with Parochial Church Council (PCC) and designated officers in securing and renewing of contracts.

Oversight of communication systems: Website, A Church Near You, social media etc.

Answer telephone, act upon and direct calls as appropriate, taking messages as necessary.

Manage email, postal correspondence and face to face enquiries, dealing as appropriate.

Preparation of agendas for meetings and supporting documentation in conjunction with relevant people.

Photocopying and preparation of printed materials.

Ordering of necessary office materials, church requirements and other items as required.

Creation and production of parish newsletter (weekly) and service booklets (as required).

Organise external church bookings and complete all relevant paperwork.

Work with Church Hall Letting Volunteer to ensure the hall bookings process is efficient and invoices sent and paid in a timely fashion.

Maintenance of parish records and databases.

Maintenance and renewal of Parish Electoral Roll.

Providing ad hoc administrative support required by the ministry team or Church Wardens (for example holiday club or church fair).

Training and induction will be provided. The successful candidate will require a DBS and training regarding safeguarding, lone working and health & safety including compliance with all relevant church policies.
