About

Rosie McMorrow has recently finished her undergraduate degree in music at Newcastle University where she achieved a first class degree, studying under Miranda Wright. She is currently a music scholar at St Andrews church in Newcastle.

Rosie was unfortunately unable to perform her final recital at Newcastle in front of a live audience and is delighted to be performing repertoire from it in this recital. The main work is Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures. The song-cycle is set to five different poems, including work by Elgar’s wife Caroline Alice Elgar, which evoke the magnificence and wonder of the sea with overarching themes of love and religious devotion.

During her time at Newcastle, Rosie was involved in numerous musical groups both as a singer and a cellist and as manager of both the Voices Ensemble and Contemporary Orchestra. She was also cast as the Sorceress in Newcastle University’s production of Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in 2020.

She is currently a member of the prestigious Samling Academy where she has received invaluable coaching from accomplished professionals and has performed in both their annual concerts at the Sage, Gateshead and in their online showcase during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is a free event, and whilst tickets help us to plan for numbers, they are optional. Feel free to simply turn up on the day.
