Anna Dias, Soprano - Recital
Time & Location
Anna Dias has just completed her undergraduate studies at Newcastle University studying music under the tutorship of Miranda Wright, achieving a first class degree. She will commence her job as a graduate music teacher at Barnard Castle School in September.
Whilst at Newcastle, Anna was greatly involved in musical opportunities. She has sung with the Newcastle University Chamber Choir and conducted the choir in her second year. She was also cast as the role of Dido in Newcastle University’s production of Dido and Aeneas.
Anna has also had recent solo engagements, including Handel’s Dixit Dominus. As a member of the prestigious Samling Academy, Anna has participated in masterclasses and performed as a soloist in their annual concerts at the Sage in Gateshead.
For the past six years, Anna has been a member of the National Youth Choir and National Youth Chamber Choir and has performed at the BBC Proms and Carols at the Royal Albert Hall where she was chosen to sing the infamous Once in Royal solo in 2018 and 2019.
Much of the repertoire Anna has chosen for this concert is taken from her final recital programme which she was unfortunately unable to perform in front of a live audience. A particular highlight for Anna is André Previn’s Sallie Chisum Remembers Billie the Kid which tells the story of the famous serial killer and his relationship with Sallie Chisum. Not only was Sallie Chisum having ‘relations’ with Billy but also the sheriff Pat Garratt. However, this relationship was deemed a terrifyingly abusive one and this creates important awareness of domestic abuse as these levels have increased over the past 18 months due to the pandemic.
This is a free event, and whilst tickets help us to plan for numbers, they are optional. Feel free to simply turn up on the day.
